OK, technically its still summer, but not according to those who follow fashion. Fall 2014 collections have started to arrive, along with the August issues of our favorite fashion magazines. So don’t become fashion road kill – stop in so we can help you choose some great pieces to add to your closet.
At Lotus, we have experience in the seasonal challenge of bringing you items that you can wear now and layer later as the weather catches up with fashion world. It takes a lot or restraint and focus to cull the collections for the “look” of fall, without the heavy fabrications, especially for someone like me that grew up in the north and always looked forward to fall fashion.
Two of our favorites designers have arrived this week at our Main Street shop, Raquel Allegra and Velvet, with their first looks of the season.
Raquel Allegra is perfect for those of us who like our luxury with a side of slouchy comfort. For her Fall 2014 collection she offers her iconic simple shapes and gypsy vibe in original patterns and lux fabrics.
My personal obsession is the collarless silk button front blouse, breezy in white with navy tie-dye. These are nothing like the hippie look we’ve been seeing in the main stream, but more thoughtfully placed patterns, accenting the shape of the garments. The soft tee shirt dressing ranges from boxy tees to a super fitted tank dress with a tie-dye pattern that plays up the hourglass shape of the wearer. Super sexy, but soft at the same time. These are the pieces you won’t want to take off, and will incorporate into your wardrobe throughout the season and beyond. Lightweight and easy to pack, we think these versatile separates will travel well and often.
Born in Berkeley CA to artisan parents, Raquel Allegra’s formative years encouraged a creative process of instinct, experiment and play. Raquel’s design career grew naturally with the origination of a shredding technique synonymous with the namesake label. Using fabrics as diverse as deerskin, linen, cashmere, and French lace along with her softer than imaginable cotton knits, the collection continues to mature and garner admiration from celebrities, editors, stylists and savvy consumers worldwide.
Velvet, with its easy price tag and fabulous fit, has been a long time favorite at Lotus, and the first fall delivery won’t disappoint its fans. A soft as butter plaid shirtdress, in smoky blue - grey tones, will pair well with either sandals or booties. Tanks in rust and olive add an autumn hue to denim now, and will be the perfect layer under a jacket or sweater later.
Velvet began in 1997 as an aspiration to create fashion forward tee shirts that embodied the laid-back style of Los Angeles. Today it has evolved into full collections recognized for their meticulously crafted, clean elevated staples. Founded and helmed by Creative Directors, Jenny Graham & Toni Spencer, the collections are created using only the finest fabrics and are manufactured primarily in the United States.
Lily Aldridge has been the face and body of Velvet since 2004, and contributes with a capsule namesake collection each year. We have proudly carried Velvet at Lotus since we opened in 2003.
